BALTIMORE, MD – A particularly long line at Otakon 2014 turned out to be an elaborate cosplay of a long line from this year’s Anime Expo, which took place last month in Los Angeles.

The 600-person macro cosplay, which included many people who were also in individual cosplay outfits, was presented as a line for a fake fan panel on The Irregular at Magic High School. According to the cosplay organizers, they were sure that no one would ever believe that show had actual fans and therefore it would be instantly recognizable as cosplay.

However, organizer Mary Skipson said that they were not that lucky. “Apparently people get in line for everything at these cons, even the dumb shit,” she told Anime Maru. “Our cosplay line tripled in size, stretched out and around the convention center, and reportedly resulted in four cases of heatstroke from people who thought they were waiting for an actual panel.”

Attendees who were fooled by the cosplay were initially angry, but were relieved when they discovered they wouldn’t have to actually attend a Mahouka fan panel.
