Alabama Refuses to Air Episode of ‘Arthur’ Featuring Gay Wedding, Airs ‘Oreimo’ Instead

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Alabama Public Television has announced that it will not air an episode of the children’s show Arthur that features a same-sex marriage, and will resolve to air the 2nd season OVA of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai instead.

In the episode, Arthur’s long-time teacher gets married to his same-sex partner.

According to programming director Jason McLarty, the station is concerned that many parents in Alabama would not consider the depiction of a gay marriage appropriate for their children. The network will air something more in line with the values of Alabamans.

OreImo, a heartwarming tale about the tender love between a brother and sister, is more in line with the sensibilities of the families in our great state,” McLarty tells Anime Maru.

“Parents can show their children what the relationships that make up a family should look like — not ever between two consenting gay adults, but between an underage girl and her brother, much to the shock and disgust of the rest of their social circle.”

McLarty went on to state that the television network is considering dropping Arthur altogether, and beginning syndication of Yosuga no Sora instead.
