SAN DIEGO, CA – Brian Aguilar, 26, proudly brandishes his left arm, decorated shoulder to elbow with a colorful spread of Nozomi Tojo from the idol anime series Love Live! School Idol Project.
Aguilar got his tattoo in 2014 during the peak of Love Live’s popularity. Despite the original cast being phased out years ago, the Aguilar still claims it is one of the greatest life decisions he has ever made.
“I don’t regret it at all. Absolutely not,” Aguiler assured our correspondent. “I had just turned 21 back then and everyone said I was being young and stupid. I’m glad I didn’t listen to them!”
Aguilar states that plenty of people appreciate his tattoo, especially in online communities such as reddit and Instagram. Even passersby are occasionally intrigued.
“Sometimes people come up to me and say ‘nice tattoo’ and laugh,” Aguilar tells Anime Maru. “I think it’s pretty cool to think that I can make someone’s day like that.”
However, not all are very receptive of the tattoo. Aguilar recalls common remarks he receives, including “that’s cringey”, “Aqours for life”, “shit taste”, “Nozomi Nico Nico Needs to die”, and “Love Live isn’t popular anymore”. Aguilar’s parents have also stated their disapproval of the tattoo, and refuse to go anywhere with him unless he covers it up.
“I don’t understand why he couldn’t have just found a nice purple haired big-tittied girl on his college campus instead,” said Aguilar’s father.
“There are always going to be haters,” Aguilar responded. “And even though some people still claim they want the best for me, I just ignore them because I know I made the right choice.”
We attempted to ask Aguilar how well he thought his idol-themed tattoo would hold up in ten years among an industry known for regularly cycling through music groups and members, but he declined to comment and went back to playing BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!.
