Game of Thrones Declared Honorary Anime

“Some parts with Jaime and Cersei felt just like we were watching Kyousuke and Kirino,” wrote the selection committee.

LOS ANGELES, CA – HBO’s popular show Game of Thrones, based off of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, has been named an honorary anime due to its content and various plot elements by the American Friends of Anime Association

The award selection committee cited Game of Thrones’ focus on sibling incest and young children leading armies and fighting wars as a major reason for the award. “If one were given a chance to be a fly on the wall of Cersei’s boudoir,” they wrote, “he might have come across her calling her brother Jaime ‘onii-sama.'”

Another major reason for the award was the story’s ongoing nature, and the fact that fans have been waiting for years for Martin to finish it. “We wonder if Martin has been busy playing video games with Togashi Yoshihiro,” the selection committee wrote jokingly.

Being declared an honorary anime also means that otaku will now trash the show whether it is good or not.
