The official website for the Bones anime Kekkai Sensen (Blood Battlefront Blockade) announced that the series finale, which had initially been delayed one week, has been pushed further back. However, the staff took to social media to assure fans that the delay would only last until viewers lost all interest.
“We have been working hard on the final episode,” tweeted director Rie Matsumoto, “but we wanted to make sure we only aired it after fans became engrossed in the new summer season and lose all interest in our show. Our fans have been so supportive and the least we can do to thank them is air the series finale while they are all too busy watching Gatchaman Crowds, Durarara, and Charlotte to give a shit.”
“Usually fans lose interest by the time the OVAs are released,” added writer Kazunao Furuya, “but we decided to step it up and push the series finale itself beyond the point where people care about our show. Remember that whole thing where Gatchaman Crowds released the director’s cut of the finale long after people stopped caring? Well, we decided to one up them and not release any finale until everyone has moved on. It’s an exciting new horizon in fandom alienation. I’m proud to be a part of it!”
However, not all fans were equally impressed by this bold move. Western anime fans, who have been waiting for the release of Evangelion 3.33 collectively rolled their eyes. “Anno has been alienating his fan base like this since the 90s,” one fan told Anime Maru. “These guys are 20 years late to the party.”
