NASA’s Opportunity Rover Added to ‘Fate/Grand Order’

Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory announced last week that they have lost all contact with the Mars rover Opportunity. Launched in 2003, the rover spent 15 years on the Martian surface — far past its expected lifespan — before finally succumbing to a dust storm which covered all its solar panels.

In reverence to its monumental service, officials at Delightworks announced that the rover will be added into its flagship mobile game, Fate/Grand Order.

Fate/Grand Order is a game where players command mythical heroes, and no one is more deserving than the Opportunity Rover and its heroic mission in the name of science,” the official announcement stated while revealing Opportunity’s 5-star Rider-class servant card and corresponding event.

The Opportunity Rover notably landed only a few days before the release of the original Fate/stay night visual novel. While Opportunity was roaming the Martian surface discovering meteorites and examining craters, Fate became the giant multimedia franchise seen today.

The announcement concluded by revealing Opportunity’s Noble Phantasm, which grants it Evasion for 3 turns — a tribute to the rover’s daring escape from a sand dune.

Fate/Grand Order insiders have postulated that because the rover is incapable of shooting arrows, an Archer version of the servant should be coming in the near future.
