New Idolmaster Game Will Feature Frostbite Engine

According to a statement by Namco Bandai Games, the newest installment to the Idolmaster game franchise, THE iDOLM@STER Platinum Stars for the PlayStation 4, will utilize DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine. Known for its stunning graphical capabilities in games such as Battlefield 4Star Wars: Battlefront, and the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda, the announcement has generated substantial amounts of hype.

Design lead Hiroshi Miura stated that the developers are very pleased to be switching to the powerful Frostbite 3. “This tool allows Platinum Stars to have powerful graphical features such as more realistic and detailed expressions from the idols. There will be advanced particle physics and lighting for concert scenes; up to 50,000 individual pen lights waving in the audience. The character models have been completely redone with trillions of polygons featuring advanced tessellation. The game will also feature advanced camerawork, realistic collisions, actively-rendered fire, and dynamically-generated destruction physics, and all new songs!”

Miura notes that while the highly-anticipated PS4 debut will be the most graphically-advanced game of all time, but emphasized that Platinum Stars will be authentic to the Idolmaster franchise. Miura then expanded on the Frostbite’s advanced boob physics capabilities for several minutes.

Due to the use of the Frostbite engine, Electronic Arts will be involved in the publishing of Platinum Stars, which will result in the endless plethora of DLC that Idolmaster fans are accustomed to.
