Type-Moon Publishes Complete Encyclopedia of the ‘Fate’ Series

Copies of Type-Moon’s official encyclopedic guide to the Fate series became available to fans starting today. Simply titled “The Complete Guide to the Fate”, the new book aims to provide fans with comprehensive reference material to the many aspects of the Fate universe.

Starting with the original visual novel Fate/stay night in 2004, the Fate franchise has grown to encompass many different titles which span across numerous forms of media such as games, novels, and anime. The huge scope of the Fate franchise can make it difficult for newcomers to know where to start and what to be aware of – a problem which Type-Moon hopes to remedy with their new publication.

“The world of Fate has grown immensely to include hundreds of characters and many fantastic stories,” stated company co-founder Takashi Takeuchi. “Many people just learning about Fate and even longtime fans have expressed their difficulty with following everything that Fate has to offer. We hope our newly released guide will answer many of the questions fans have and allow them gain new appreciation for the Fate works.”

The convenient 11,637 page guide is touted as the most comprehensive collection of information on Fate yet. The book contains the complete text from the original novel and all of its corresponding story routes along with the story’s relation to the various Fate anime adaptations. It also contains synopses of the many visual novels, games, and light novels along with overviews of spinoff series such as Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya and Fate/Apocrypha. The last section of the book provides a useful full character index of all the heroes that have ever appeared in the Fate franchise.

“I can’t wait to finally understand everything that’s going on,” said one enthusiastic Fate fan struggling to keep hold of their new purchase. “Now I don’t have to just fake it whenever someone mentions whichever Fate forward slash thing they are into.”

Type-Moon has expressed their satisfaction with the success of the release, hinting that an updated second edition may make an appearance next year. For fans outside of Japan, an English translation of the encyclopedia is currently in the works which is expected to be complete by Spring of 2022. In the meantime, western fans are encouraged to keep pretending that they have actually completed the original Fate/stay night visual novel.
