BAYONNE, NJ – George R.R. Martin, author of the popular A Song of Ice and Fire novels, which are currently being adapted into the Game of Thrones TV show on HBO, has issued a statement following the shocking end of episode 131 of the Madhouse anime Hunter x Hunter, based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi.

“I thought I was cruel, but Togashi is flat-out evil. To build that kind of affinity for a kind-hearted character and then unceremoniously dispatch of him in that way is too awful for words. I simply stared at my monitor in disbelief for like two minutes as my manga-reading friends giggled and filmed me on their phones.”

Episode 131, which fans have begun referring to as “The Red Janken”, triggered a massive online stir, with several users pondering how a cutesy shounen about a little boy on a quest for adventure got this fucking dark. Martin was no exception: “I can’t believe he will never meet his dad,” he wrote. “And how are Kurapika and Leorio going to react? Fuck… Fuck, man. I think I’m going to be sick. So this is what it’s like to be a fan of my books? I must be such an asshole! I need to rethink my life.”
