Isekai World Reports 6 New Cases of COVID-19

The Coronavirus, an infectious disease which surfaced in a wet market in Wuhan, China late last year, has since spread to 171+ countries, hundreds of thousands of people, and now an alternate world. 25-year-old Shingo Ichinomiya, a firm worker from Japan, reportedly disregarded WHO guidelines and broke quarantine to travel to the magical Kingdom of Helmut, not knowing he was infected with the COVID-19 virus.

Immediately upon traveling to Helmut, Ichinomiya received a noble title, a semi-tragic backstory, and a talent for magic which was considered rare and special to this particular isekai world. What he did not receive was an education on the merits of regular handwashing, an obvious failing of the medieval-era land. He also failed to practice the recommended 6-foot social distancing procedures, as his brown hair and kind personality quickly earned him a large party/harem. Health officials have stated that these combined factors likely led to an immediate outbreak.

Currently, hundreds of Helmut peasants are experiencing high fevers, dry cough, and other symptoms. Thus far there has been only one fatality, the kindly mayor of a nearby starting town, as the only other people who live past the age of 35 are wizards or are otherwise literally immortal. The king of Helmut has responded by suspending all taxes and issuing a kingdom-wide “stay inside unless monsters attack” order, as there is no stock market to prioritize.

It is still yet unknown exactly how many citizens of the isekai world are infected as the main character’s party were among the only ones wealthy and well-known enough to have received testing.
